How does the Canadian school system work?
In Canada, the school year starts in September. The first year of elementary school is called Kindergarten and the children start on the September of the year that they turn 5 years old. The elementary schools go from K to grade 7. Secondary schools go from grades 8 to 12.
Parents can choose to enroll their children in a preschool program, which is usually a couple of hours a day for socialization, or to enroll them in a full-time childcare centre.
